This is an amazing use of traditional medium. The wood's texture brings everything together. I love the mix of more stylized forms with forms that have more depth :)
I've never heard of oil pencils though; would you tell me about them?

thanks so much!

Oil pencils are pretty much in the form of a color pencil, but instead of wax-based color, it's oil based. They work best with wood, apparently. Only problem is that I'll need to add a varnish to the piece and I'm honestly a little afraid to. :/

Wow, I have never actually seen any oil pencils, maybe because I've never looked. I should next time :D
Would you suggest that someone new to oils use the pencils first to see if they would like oil painting? Or should they just buy a simple set of oil paints instead?

I wouldn't relate oil pencils to oil paints other than the fact that they're both oil based media. Oil pencils are used very similarly to colored pencils. Oil paints are a different story entirely!

All your woodblock paintings make me crazy with glee. This one is particularly incredible.
